Those who have elder brothers know that growing up with one is tough, but at the same time, it’s also one of the most blessed things that can happen to you. Elder Brothers are like sweet but sour candy that you can’t get enough of. Even though they sometimes make your eyes twitch and your lips pucker, you can’t seem to resist them.
They tease you and may drive your crazy and make you want to pull your hair out, but they will also protect you and love you unconditionally. Hence, there are a lot of reasons why we shouldn’t take their presence in our lives for granted.
I want to personally dedicate this very article on the occasion of Rakhi, to my elder brother and to show just how lucky all of you who are having an elder brother.
Here are the five amazing perks of having an elder brother:
1. He becomes your personal bodyguard.
He has watched over you since day one. Sometimes when someone messes up with you, make you feel uncomfortable or being mean with you, one call to your big bro and it’s all taken care of. It’s always comforting to know that someone has your back anytime anywhere and he’s just a text away.
Even his friends see you as their own little sister and will always be there to get you out of any trouble. It’s a good thing to know that you have a lot of people looking out for you.
Though the downside is sometimes, he really scared away the nice guys too .
2. He taught you how to be patient.
As a sister, you are probably all too familiar with the pranks and goofy games boys play. On a positive note, this taught you how to be patient. Whether its motherhood and parenting or dealing with others, having an elder brother has taught you not to get angry or be frustrated too quickly.
Yeah for that phase of motherhood to come you have to tolerate all his lame jokes for 20-25 years .
3. He doesn’t let you make the same mistakes he did.
He is always one step ahead from you in life. He has already walked the road you’re about to walk, and he will always tell you what the right thing to do is, from his own experience. Even though he might tease you at times, your elder brother won’t ever let you make the wrong choices when it matters. He’ll always make sure you stay on track and not do anything stupid. He’ll always be there, watching over you.
That’s great until he thinks he knows your life better than you do .
Remember, while it’s important to listen to his point of view, you’re the one living your life, so you have to make your own decisions.
4. He can take the fall for you and help you get up when you fall.
Remember, the wrestling matches you got into with your brother!! That taught you to stay strong and never give up. He might be stronger than you, but you learn to become cunning.
Although your brother may rat you out to your parents if you take the last bite of his chocolate bar, he’ll never let you get into real trouble. Your elder brother will always protect you, and he’ll even sacrifice himself for you, without thinking twice. He will always get the beatings with canes protecting you.
You can always count on him. Big brothers always understand you and will never judge you for mistakes you make.
But be careful, because sometimes he might make fun of those silly incidents even after ages .
5. He taught you chivalry.
Believe me, the way you let men treat you today is probably what you learned from your elder brother. Big bros teach their little sisters exactly how a man should treat them. As a little sister, you notice the way he treats your mom or his girlfriend and that in turn creates the standard that you will hold all men who try to date you.
Having an elder brother and his advice at hand can help you avoid a lot of relationship heartaches. Or, at least get through them.
Eventually, most girls would love to get married. However, it can be difficult sometimes to find good men to date. Having an elder brother means you will have a steady stream of suitors.
Well, in my case, he joked on my mathematical skills on the first meeting with my first ever suitor( now husband) .
I think without my elder brother, I probably literally wouldn’t be here. Although I wasn’t given a choice, even if I were, I would have always chosen him as my elder brother.
So, now you all see how lucky you are. Please do comment and share other perks of having an elder brother or sister.
Love You Bhai… Happy Raksha Bandhan to all the siblings.珞
