The recent #RedDotChallenge (Red Dot Challenge)social media campaign by the United Nations International Children’s Emergency Fund (UNICEF) got support from all over the world. Ollywood famous actor Archita Sahu has taken up this challenge through her social media handle, which got a lot of appreciation and support from her fans.
A week before the International Menstrual Hygiene Day (May 28), UNICEF has launched red dot challenge social media campaign to create awareness about menstrual hygiene. The UNICEF has partnered with actors, models, and social media influencers to talk about periods and the importance of menstrual hygiene as part of the campaign red dot challenge by unicef. This challenge is to post a picture of your palm with a red dot and express your views on issues and stigma related to periods. The campaign has been joined by a lot of people, creating a significant impact on social media.
Albeit our society has evolved, but menstrual issues and taboos still persist. People don’t talk about it a lot, and even celebrities are also ashamed to talk about it. But Archita, who has already been part of many social causes earlier, has put her step forward in this campaign as well. She posted a picture on her social media handles, showing her palm with a red dot marked on it.
On her tweet, she mentioned that “Whether it is COVID or the cyclone ‘Amphan’.One thing is constant and that is PERIODS.STOP shaming periods!#reddotchallenge. May this be the beginning of new and shame free era! Thankyou @unicefindia for making me a part of red dot challenge campaign. Certainly taking this to the ground level”.
Archita believes one thing that doesn’t depend on time is menstruation, and people should have open conversations about it without feeling shy or ashamed. Currently, she is a part of “Azadi Sanitary Pads”, which is a start-up that makes sanitary pads made out of bamboo cotton, that gets easily decomposed and is also skin-friendly.
We hope your bravery of taking this challenge up will bring a change in society.
We are proud of you, Archita!
Lot’s of love from the Team This is Odisha.
